LWL-Industriemuseum Ziegeleimuseum Lage

The Ziegeleimuseum [brick factory museum] keeps alive an important part of industrial history, as the mass production of bricks was a precondition for rapid growth of the towns and factories.

Know-how and workforces from Lippe played an important role in this – each year during the summer months thousands of men set off from the region on long journeys to work at distant brickyards. The core of the museum is the historic factory building of the former Beermann brickworks on the periphery of Lage. Machines have dictated the pace here since 1922, but before that time bricks were produced by hand. On action days the museum puts the machine brickyard into operation and bakes bricks in the historic round kiln.
The former County of Lippe did not belong to the Prussians; as a consequence the exhibition does not have contextual references in this regard.
