1932

"Preußenschlag" and removal of the democratic government of the Free State of Prussia

The "Preußenschlag" in 1932 terminates the last essential participation in government by social democracy in the Weimar Republic. Reichspräsident Paul von Hindenburg (1847-1934) removes the government of the Free State of Prussia under the Prussian Prime Minister Otto Braun (1872-1955) and declares Franz von Papen (1879-1969) the new Reichskommissar.

In this way the Free State of Prussia is subordinated to the Reich government and its independence comes to an end.
The "Preußenschlag" destroys the basis of the democratic system in the Free State of Prussia and therefore also throughout the Reich. It promotes the elimination of democratic structures via anti-republican forces.
