1947

Breakup of the State of Prussia

The Prussian state is formally dissolved on 25 February 1947 by the controlling council of the four Allied victorious powers.

The victorious countries see the basis for German power strivings and military power development in the Prussian State. They eliminate the still formally existing residue of the state left over from the Dritte Reich in this way. The smashing of the largest German territorial state forms the basis for the restructuring of state structure in the subsequent Federal Republic of Germany.
