On the orders of the Prussian King Frederick William III, only Protestant churches should exist in Prussia in the future. 
The first Protestant bishop of the unified church from 1818 is the Hamm preacher Rulemann Friedrich Eylert (1770-1852). The Prussian King becomes head of the church until 1918.
